In 2016 we set out to understand what "home" meant to children from different walks of life. We visited the Al-Hidayah orphanage and asked them to paint a picture of "home". The results were fascinating, with some kids painting their favorite cartoons, and others painting the Al-Qur'an. Many of these children had lost their parents at an early age, and in turn, their houses. Their definition of home is appropriately different than those from much more privileged backgrounds, and in our eyes it sends a clear message that a home is not necessarily a bed with 4 walls and a kitchen; it is what brings us comfort and joy, during our struggles and our victories.
