The Regional Electoral Court of Maranhão (TRE-MA) is an organ of the Federal Judiciary Branch and its main activity is to conduct the electoral process, from the registration of voters, operation of the elections to the judgment of matters relating to electoral legislation. Mission: Strengthen democracy through the electoral process. Vision: Be recognized for the excellence of the electoral process. Values: ETHICS: To strive for respect for constitutional values and principles. TRANSPARENCY: Ensure publicity as a rule, making institutional information widely and transparently available to internal and external audiences. EFFECTIVENESS: Matching the efficiency and effectiveness of its performance in favor of the best results for society. INNOVATION: Constantly improve the electoral process, supporting the search for new technologies, striving for safety. DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: Valuing the plurality of society and ensuring inclusion for all citizens. SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY: Seek an action concerned with social and environmental sustainability. TRE-MA, headquartered in the Capital (São Luís) and with jurisdiction throughout the Maranhão State, is composed of seven Members (Federal Constitution, art. 120, §1 and TSE Resolution No. 21.461/2003): - Two judges among the judges of the Court of Justice; - Two judges, among Judges of Law, chosen by the Court of Justice; - A Federal Judge chosen by the Federal Regional Court of the First Region; - Two judges among six lawyers of notable legal knowledge and moral integrity, appointed by the President of the Republic, appointed by the Court of Justice. The Regional Electoral Attorney, together with his/her substitute, will be appointed by the General Electoral Attorney, from among the Regional Attorneys of the Republic in the State, or, where there is none, among the lifetime Attorneys of the Republic, for a term of two years (Supplementary Law No. 75/1993, Art. 76).
