Redhead Bowling Club Information

CLUB REDHEAD has its roots in 1952, when in January that year a group of towns people held a meeting to discuss the virtue's of setting up a club to service the local area. This was followed by a public meeting with Shire Council Officials in attendance. A committee was then formed and in February another meeting was called to elect a permanent Committee for the ensuring year. The Lake Macquarie Shire Council was approached for a grant of public land for the recreational area, to include a Bowling Club and greens, a Tennis Club and parking facilities. An area bounded by Cowlishaw, Steel and Burns Streets which included a weatherboard house was granted on a sustainable long term lease. The cottage became the first Club House. After clearing and levelling the site the soil was laid and grass planted. Countless Volunteers nurtured the green through its growing period and in 1954 the No 1 green was officially opened. In 1956 a new clubhouse was opened, a liquor licence was granted and in 1958 No2 green was laid.
