"The company which operates our schools has faced some very difficult financial challenges over the last 10 years. While profit is not our primary objective, we cannot continue to sustain significant deficits. This situation and the uncertain economic climate have forced us to make some very difficult decisions," Pastor Worker said. The Church proposes to sell the properties. "We must be able to redirect significant resources to those schools which are growing and which urgently require additional facilities such as Macarthur Adventist College, Hills Adventist College (Kellyville Campus) and the relocation of Wahroonga Adventist School." Pastor Worker said the closures would affect 41 staff in Strathfield and Mona Vale, who have been briefed by directors of the company and advised of options for redeployment. The company is also providing counselling to students and parents about alternatives for completing their education. "We are doing everything we can to ensure a smooth transition for students to other schools or centres," Pastor Worker said. The Church acknowledges that these closures will be difficult for the families and community members who love their school and centre very much and are extremely sad to see them close.
