Reconstructing Judaism is the central organization of the Reconstructionist movement. We train the next generation of rabbis, support and uplift congregations and havurot, foster emerging expressions of Jewish life, and encourage people to be their best selves — always helping to shape what it means to be Jewish today and to imagine the Jewish future.
Reconstructionists approach Judaism — and life — with deep consideration of the past and a passion to relate it to the present. We have originated many of the core innovations of today’s Judaism and lead efforts to make our congregations and havurot even more groundbreaking, inclusive and relevant.
Our mission is to reimagine and breathe new life into Judaism. We create radically inclusive spaces for Jewish spiritual practice and community, focusing on engaging, educating, and empowering people across the spectrum of identity, background, age, and belief. We are re-invigorating Judaism for the 21st century and leading people in Chicago and beyond toward more purposeful, more connected, and more inspired lives.
In an increasingly diverse Jewish world, we’re a progressive seminary that prepares students from all walks of life for the rabbinate.
Engaging, seminar-style classes and hevrutah (paired) learning are designed to facilitate intimate, meaningful and educational discussion. Our groundbreaking social justice organizing and multifaith studies curricula, as well as our renowned Jewish ethics center, create real-world foundations for our students' rabbinical education.
Drawing on the powerful texts and magnificent Jewish history we have inherited, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College trains rabbis in shaping a Judaism relevant to the unfolding challenges and blessings of the current moment.
