Re-Format Information

Re-Format is an architecture and masterplanning studio with over thirty years of practice behind it, based in Petersfield from our own restored farmstead on the edge of the South Downs, working both locally and nationally. We work across a broad range of scales and settings, from large housing developments, retirement communities, schools, and neighbourhood masterplans through to bepoke individual homes and listed building restorations. What connects it all is a commitment to designing things that genuinely belong where they are, that work hard for the people using them, and that we'd be proud to walk past in twenty years. We work extensively in later living. We've designed retirement communities, extra care schemes, and village-scale developments across the UK, working closely with operators and residents to understand how architecture can support independence, dignity, and community as people age. It's work we care about and have become known for. Our education portfolio spans primary schools, colleges, and specialist learning environments, projects where getting the architecture right has a direct and lasting impact on the people inside. We bring the same care to our extensive work with listed and historic buildings, where the challenge is always to intervene with confidence while respecting what's already there. And at a larger scale, our masterplanning work shapes new neighbourhoods and mixed-use developments, including some of the most ambitious new communities currently being delivered in the UK, such as One Horton Heath. Our work has been recognised with Housing Design Awards, Civic Trust Awards, RIBA Awards, and others, but the thing we value most is repeat commissions and the trust of clients who come back. We hold framework appointments with public sector bodies and institutions alongside a wide mix of private developers and clients, and most of our work still comes through reputation.
