Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) was set up in 2015 as a subsidiary of HMRC’s Chief Digital & Information Officer Group (CDIO). In 2021 it was agreed that the services provided by RCDTS would move into HMRC and that the majority of RCDTS employees would transfer under TUPE Regulations to become civil servants. Two services provided by RCDTS, IT Service Desk and Networks, were moved to external suppliers and colleagues transferred to Fujitsu and BT respectively under TUPE Regulations. The transfer of RCDTS colleagues to HMRC was completed successfully in February 2023, and the RCDTS corporate entity closed. RCDTS was crucial in enabling HMRC to deliver critical services for the department and the UK as a whole. The skills of the RCDTS team will continue to be vital to HMRC moving forward in building a more flexible and secure IT estate. As a new stronger, unified CDIO team, HMRC has strengthened the capabilities needed in house to help in supporting HMRC’s ambition to be a trusted, modern tax and customs department.
