Ray Morton Information

Ray Morton is a writer, film historian, and script consultant. Ray has conributed a chapter on the 1976 version of King Kong to this new collection of essays on the work of the great Franco-British director John Guillermin, edited by John's widow Mary Guillermin. With those words, John Guillermin undertook what became the highest profileas well as one of the most challengingfilms of his career: the 1976 remake of King Kong. That Guillermin would helm the redo may have been inevitable, since Kong `76s producer Dino De Laurentiis was initially inspired to update the 1933 RKO-Radio Pictures classic by the success of Guillermins The Towering Inferno. Ray is a primary contributor to this excellent oral history of the 007 films by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross. the greatest contribution [Richard] Maibaum made to the Bond series was to re-define the character of James Bond for the screen. He was the writer most responsible for transforming Ian Flemings intense, conflicted, and humorless blunt instrument into the cooler, more dashing, and self-assured man of the world with a sardonic wit perfectly embodied by Sean Connery in the early films. Flemings Bond is a terrific literary creation, but Maibaums version is the perfect movie hero, something absolutely vital for a successful ongoing series.
