Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Ngāi Tahu are the iwi comprised of Ngāi Tahu whānui; that is, the collective of the individuals who descend from the five primary hapū of Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Māmoe and Waitaha, namely Kāti Kurī, Ngāti Irakehu, Kāti Huirapa, Ngāi Tūāhuriri and Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki. Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu was established by the Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Act 1996 and services the tribe's statutory rights and ensures that the benefits of the Settlement are enjoyed by Ngāi Tahu whānui now and in the future. Throughout the South Island there are 18 local rūnanga. An elected representative from each of rūnanga makes up Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, the governing body overseeing the tribe's activities.

We are a leading tribal organisation representing 68 marae and over 82,000 tribal members. We have a responsibility to protect and uphold our Crown settlements for the benefit of current and future generations. Waikato-Tainui delivers a range of initiatives directed at improving outcomes for our tribal members and marae in the following areas: - Kaupapa (Cultural wellbeing, tikanga, te reo, heritage & identity) - Hapori (Education, Career Pathways, Employment, Housing, and overall Health and wellbeing) - Taiao (Environmental wellbeing, natural resource management, climate change, and sustainability) - Whai Rawa (Economic development, enterprise, investment, and financial literacy) - Mahi Tonu (Planning, strategy, legal, compliance and operational frameworks) Building the capacity of our people and growing the prosperity of our whaanau remains the driving force behind our efforts as an organisation. We are equally committed to ensuring that our kaimahi (workforce) are also developed, trained, and well positioned to serve our purpose.

Te Rūnanga O Toa Rangatira Incorporated (the Rūnanga) is a non-profit incorporated society with charitable status. The Rūnanga is the mandated iwi authority for Ngāti Toa Rangatira and is the administrative body of iwi estates and assets. The Rūnanga deals with the political and public issues of national interest such as Treaty of Waitangi claims, commercial and customary fisheries, health services including primary mental health and residential care services, local government relationships and resource and environmental management.
