Railstar Engineering Llc Information

Railstar Engineering, LLC is . . . a limited liability corporation licensed as a business in the State of Washington, and approved to practice engineering by the Washington State Division of Professional Licensing. Railstar can and will work legally anywhere in the United States. Railstar is insured for general liability and professional liability ("errors and omissions"). My name is Ken Kirschling and I am Railstar's sole owner. Jeff Herbeck recently joined me as a potential partner. Jeff has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and has been working for railroads up to now. First, as an intern for St. Louis MetroLink. Then as a bridge inspector and track supervisor for CN in Wisconsin, Upper Michigan and Louisiana. And most recently as a B&B supervisor for BNSF in Illinois and Missouri. I'm currently registered as a professional engineer in California, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont and Washington, and Jeff is registered in Missouri. I also maintain a record with NCEES, enabling me to obtain registration by comity in other states fairly quickly. One third of my career has been with consulting firms performing general civil, highway bridge, track layout and railroad bridge design. Another third of my career has been with a nation-wide rail bridge contractor involved in repair and maintenance of timber, concrete and especially steel railroad bridges. The most recent portion of my career was with two Class I railroads. With one, I was a senior structural engineer and a manager structures. With the other, a manager bridges & structures. I have advanced knowledge and experience in condition evaluation and restoration techniques for timber, concrete and steel structural components. I have designed repairs, retrofits and strengthening schemes. I've inspected thousands of bridges and rated hundreds. I am trained to climb and prefer to perform most inspections myself.
