Quality Fast Foods Information

Quality Fast Foods was established in 1977 and is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Their large manufacturing facility has had Federal Inspected Status since 1982. In 1981 Quality Fast Foods invented the extended shelf life sandwich using a Modified Atmosphere Package (MAP) which has enabled them to be the leaders in the retail package sandwich industry in Canada ever since. As the demand for their sandwiches grew and in order to maintain their competitive edge, the plant was continually enlarged to include a custom made automatic assembly line that produces more than one sandwich per second to their latest expansion, finished in the spring of 1998; which includes an additional cold storage area for shipping and customer order picking and a new employee comfort area for the more than 100 workers. They have 5 production lines, each one engineered to efficiently produce a specific group of sandwiches. In 1984, Brian Long, the founder of Quality Fast Foods got together with Murray Fierheller, Food Scientist with the Alberta Government, and developed a mixture of natural gases, together with an impermeable wrap, extending the shelf life of a sandwich from a few days to a few weeks. Controlled tests fully monitored by The University of Alberta studied the effect of oxygen on meat. Quality Fast Foods has also been innovative in designing and producing a successful line of Club Pack sandwiches. Quality Fast Foods has been featured on ITV, CBC, Venture, Access Network, The Edmonton Journal, Food in Canada, Edible Revolution and Alberta Report.
