The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) is a Quaker organization that promotes lasting peace with justice, as a practical expression of faith in action. Drawing on continuing spiritual insights and working with people of many backgrounds, we nurture the seeds of change and respect for human life that transform social relations and systems.
Britain Yearly Meeting is a charity that works with and on behalf of all Quakers in Britain – supporting the Quaker community, speaking out in the world and acting to promote peace, justice, equality and sustainability.
Open to inspiration, grounded in faith
We support the Quaker governance and decision-making bodies that mean all of our work is open to inspiration and grounded in faith. We support local Quaker meetings across Britain and build links with other churches and faiths.
Sharing our vision
We work to build public awareness and understanding of who Quakers are and of the things that matter to us.
Working for change
We act on Quaker concerns at home and abroad, helping to change our world for the better. We work with peacebuilders in East Africa, South Asia, Palestine and Israel. Our workshops, courses and resources equip groups at the grassroots to work for nonviolent social change. We challenge militarism and the arms trade, promote peace education and support the peace movement in Britain. We work for a more compassionate criminal justice system, fairer housing and an economic system with equality, justice and environmental sustainability at its heart. We campaign for action on climate change and support Quakers in Britain to become a low-carbon, sustainable community.
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is a faith community comprised of over 100 local Meeting communities in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, all of Delaware and Eastern Maryland. We practice "unprogrammed" Quaker worship. That is, we gather together in silent worship to wait on the word of God. We do not make use of a paid clergy or sacramental rituals. Rather we meet each other in a friendly atmosphere where anyone who feels strongly led to speak can do so. Many Friends give their time and resources to promote peace, understanding, justice and integrity.
