L’Hôpital Erasme, hôpital académique de l’ULB, fait partie des 7 hôpitaux académiques que compte la Belgique. Institution académique, privée et laïque, elle remplit conjointement 3 missions : les soins aux patients, l’enseignement et la recherche. Les valeurs fondamentales qui guident l’institution sont le respect et la considération des individus, l'ouverture d'esprit, la tolérance, la solidarité, la critique constructive et le doute raisonné. Les principaux domaines d’excellence de l’Hôpital Erasme concernent les Neurosciences, la Psychiatrie, la Gastroentérologie médicochirurgicale, les Secteurs cardiovasculaires et pulmonaire, la Gynécologie-Obstétrique, la Génétique, la Transplantation et les Soins intensifs. Par ailleurs, 2 polycliniques extérieures (Lothier et Nivelles), 2 centres extérieurs (le Centre de Traumatologie et de Réadaptation-CTR et le Centre de Revalidation gériatrique - CRG) et un centre spécialisé en imagerie médicale (le Centre Ambulatoire Erasme-Imedia) complètent l’offre de soins. L’hôpital est situé sur le campus hospitalo-facultaire Erasme qui comprend la Faculté de Médecine (+/- 3500 étudiants), la Faculté des Sciences de la Motricité (+/- 1100 étudiants) et l’Ecole de Santé Publique (+/- 600 étudiants). Ouvert en 1977 et doté aujourd’hui d’une capacité de 1048 lits, l’hôpital accueille annuellement 25.000 à 30.000 patients en hospitalisation et dénombre 350.000 à 400.000 consultations. Plus de 3.000 membres du personnel, dans 80 métiers différents, contribuent quotidiennement à prodiguer des soins sous le signe de l’ambition, de l’excellence et du bien-être.
