In 1963 Mario and Matilde Clementoni founded the homonymous toy company in Recanati and created a board game called “La Tombola della Canzone”. Inspired by the famous Italian song festival of Sanremo, it was a huge success at the time. 1967 marked an important turning point. This was the year that Sapientino came into being, synonymous with educational games still today. Sapientino is based on Mario Clementoni’s simple yet ingenious idea: “Children put all their powers of concentration in play and retain in their memory whatever they take pleasure in. And play is their greatest pleasure.” Playtime has the potential to become an invaluable channel for educational content because it can strike a balance between entertainment and learning, leaving a mark on children as they explore, compare and imagine, and helping them to grow into the adults of the future. The learning through play approach set us apart from the rest and prompted us to undertake an important internationalisation process. Today, we are an Italian toy-making company deeply rooted in our local area, yet we have a strong international vocation (we export our toys and games to over 80 different countries); 7 product ranges are available to guide children throughout their journey to adulthood. Taking great pride in our contribution to Italian manufacturing excellence, we ensure that 90% of the overall production process takes place in Recanati; Thanks to a vast know-how and experience amassed over more than 60 years, and we can rely on a team of over 60 young researchers who follow each single phase of the game-creation process. We have come a long way, yet we still strive every single day to improve ourselves and to continue breathing life into games and toys that are able to excite and engage, allowing children to grow up through play.
