Riverside Studios is a multi-arts centre on the banks of the River Thames in Hammersmith, London, England, that has played host to contemporary performance, film, visual art exhibitions and television production. In September 2014 the venue closed for major redevelopment, it is scheduled to reopen in 2018 with a state-of-the-art building which will provide a vital new destination for live entertainment and a centre for innovation within the field of live-to-digital arts.
The new Riverside Studios will house three television/live arts studios, a cinema and screening room, rehearsal space, an archive and reading room and restaurants and bars looking out over the river. The varied programme will be comprised of theatre, comedy, independent film, exhibitions, festivals, installations and conferences with options to hire the spaces for external events.
Riverside Studios also produces FuturePlay Festival, a digital arts festival which celebrates, explores and showcases cutting-edge creative content and ideas at the intersection of art and technology. It offers audiences a diverse programme of virtual reality experiences, interactive games and installations, live performances and an industry-focused conference. The festival took place as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2016-17 and will return to Riverside Studios when the building reopens.
