Our Story Nigel Pinegar, former Retail Director at Mitchell & Butler, teamed up with local entrepreneur, Matthew Crowther, in a joint acquisition to launch Pug Pubs Ltd in September of 2013 Nigel, who helped shape M&B’s Ember Inns Brand over the past 2 years, led the conversion to their new Pub & Dining concept. Prior to that, Nigel’s role as Operations Director at Paramount Restaurants included the strategic development of their Brasserie Gerard Brand, including the conversion of five Café Uno sites. The pair first met during Nigel’s time at The Restaurant Group, when Matt was the Area Support Manager for Frankie & Bennie’s locations in the West Midlands. Since then, they have gone on to follow similar paths with Matt holding various Operations roles at Paramount and Mitchell & Butlers. In September 2010, Matt held the coveted role of General Manager at The Lazy Cow in Warwickshire. Under Matt’s management, the steakhouse come boutique hotel, fast became the most talked about spot in Warwickshire gaining itself a position in The Sunday Times Hotlist. We believe the pub should be a neighboured hub where communities can come together to put the world to rights over a pint of locally brewed ale. Pug Pubs describe their pubs as a ‘’Neighbourhood Pub and Kitchen’’ centred on the pub as the heart & soul of the community. We take our food seriously & only use the best local suppliers, however we are not playing in the trendy gastropub arena, instead focusing on the traditional atmosphere of everyone’s favourite local.
