Publica is a London-based urban design and research practice working in the UK and internationally. We are trusted experts on complex city-making projects. Guided by clear principles, we strive to realise the social, cultural, and environmental values embedded in our neighbourhoods. Over sixteen years, Publica has defined a field of practice that emphasises research-led decision-making, an integrated approach to planning and development, and the application of bold and creative ideas through strategic urban design. We survey neighbourhoods, undertake in-depth research and provide strategies and urban design for innovative, inclusive and sustainable growth, policy and planning. It starts with listening - a deep understanding of local context shapes every project. By engaging with diverse perspectives, we develop ideas that reflect lived experience. As a result, Publica has restored and reimagined some of London’s most significant streets and civic spaces, while setting rigorous standards for best practice locally and internationally. Our work includes the award-winning transformation of Hanover Square and the redesign of Bond Street, as well as city-wide policy for a safer public realm for women, girls and gender-diverse people, developed with the Greater London Authority as part of the Mayor's Good Growth by Design programme. Our multidisciplinary team are experts in urban design, research, masterplanning, and strategy. Our specialisms include designing for evening and night time economies, cultural planning, community infrastructure, child-friendly cities, landscape architecture, lighting design, policy and guidance, stakeholder management, inclusive design, and safety for women, girls and non-binary people in the public realm.
