Pterys Information

Pterys sunglasses started with a medical trip to Haiti, where one of our founding members discovered the high prevalence of a preventable eye condition known as pterygium among Haitian farmers. We believe that we can make a difference by raising funds through the sale of designer wooden glasses in first world countries and partnering with existing NGO’s to promote global awareness and to distribute protective sunglasses for the prevention of the disease. More than 50% of Haiti’s population of 10 million work in agriculture, so the majority of the population is at risk. We anticipate that with enough funding, distribution, and disease awareness, we can reduce the number of new cases of pterygium by 50 - 80% in Haiti.
