Since 1911 the Dutch national heritage organisation "Bond Heemschut" is the private organisation for the protection of the historically built environment and cultural landscapes in the Netherlands. The organisation is independent from the government and derives its income mainly from its members and through donations. The Zaanse Schans is one of the most remarkable locations of the Netherlands. Sails for boats and windmills are woven in the weaver house “Het Wevershuis”. Craftsmen in traditional clothing demonstrate how barrels and tubs are made in the cooperage “De Kuiperij”.
