Brooklyn Prospect Charter School is a K-12 college preparatory community where excellent teachers prepare a diverse student body to have a positive impact on society and a lifelong passion for learning.
We’re dedicated to diversity. Building a truly inclusive community for educating children is our most important goal, our hardest challenge, and the driving force behind everything we do. We have been champions of diversity from the outset, and attribute 100% of our success to having a team of educators, leaders, and staff who come from all walks of life and benefit from that difference.
Learning never stops. Students aren’t the only ones learning at Brooklyn Prospect. We push ourselves to continuously improve our craft and get better at what we do, inside and outside of the classroom. Our system of dedicated professional development sessions, substantial resource sharing, classroom observations, regular 1:1 meetings, professional reviews, and parent/student surveys all combine to make sure the learning never stops.
Your curiosity counts. We encourage team members to bring new strategies and tactics to the table because many minds are always better than one. We’re tackling some of the toughest challenges in public school education, and empowering our team to be creative problem solvers is essential to our continued success. At Brooklyn Prospect, diversity is more than demographics — its diversity of ideas, too.
The Brooklyn New School, P.S. 146, was founded by parents and teachers in 1987 as a progressive alternative to traditional education. In this diverse learning community, instruction is experiential and hands-on with a standards based curriculum that also focuses on children’s individual needs and interests. Adults model life-long learning by engaging in ongoing professional development. The governance structure assures collaboration among parents, staff and administration.
Our inquiry based curriculum enables students to problem solve and to effect change. They apply knowledge gained in school to real life situations. Students develop projects with teachers in and outside of the classroom. We are committed to education which stresses cooperation rather than competition. Classes are not tracked, and there is no gifted program.
The students of the Battery Park City School are competent, capable, curious and caring individuals who discover the unique contributions they will draw upon as they become responsible members of society. Our students are lifelong learners prepared to engage in the work of creating new paradigms for an increasingly inclusive and sustainable world. To make this vision a reality, we nurture the academic, emotional, social, and physical well-being of each child by building on their intrinsic strengths. The school community works collaboratively, ensuring that each student has a voice and is represented in the curriculum, in order to create an environment of equity and respect for all.
