Provicio is a small software company run by Ben Winter, an engineer by training and by trade. In 2026, a meaningful share of applicants to remote technical roles aren't who they say they are AI-inflated resumes, resume-mill output, and in a growing number of cases, people who have never done the work at all. Most hiring processes were designed for a world where the resume was mostly true, and they check the paperwork (background, references, identity) rather than the person behind it. Provicio is the eight-minute check between "shortlisted" and "interviewed." A candidate talks through their own work history in response to open-ended questions that don't reference the resume. The transcript is compared against what the resume claims, and the hiring team gets a confidence level with the reasoning laid out for a human to review. Nothing is automatically rejected. What it catches: the resume the applicant can't back up in their own words. What it doesn't: a fluent liar with a memorized story, or a proxy who's different from the person who recorded. We say so on the website, because a tool that's honest about its limits is easier to trust and easier to defend. Analysis is transcript-only, and audio is deleted after transcription. Candidates review and correct their own transcript before it's submitted. Results are labeled for human review. Designed around NYC Local Law 144, Illinois HB 3773, California's automated-decision regulations, and Colorado's 2027 law. A third-party bias audit hasn't been done yet; we'll say so when it has.
