ProPortion Foundation's mission is to realise social businesses, at the Base-of-Pyramid, together. Where most commercial companies simply consider people earning only several dollars a day as poor and therefore not commercially relevant as end consumer, ProPortion embraces the BoP as users who desire beautiful products & services that are life-improving. Obviously, those products need to be affordable and be made accessible. But it should not be provided for free, like still many NGOs do. ProPortion applies social business principles; social impact is the goal and profit is the means for improving products & services and scaling reach. ProPortion believes that the success of a social business lies in putting the target group centrally in the design process. Having roots in a design agency, design-thinking is what the team of ProPortion is good at. Together with years of experience in BoP contexts, ProPortion aims to be one of the leading organisations worldwide in developing appealing products, services and smart business models for and with the BoP. ProPortion self-incubates social enterprises in Kenya, Bangladesh and Colombia through its foundation and offers consultancy services to other organisations in becoming successful social entrepreneurs in developing countries.
