Project X Global explored new approaches to systems innovation, demand-led collaboration and value-chain transformation to address global sustainability challenges. The work was grounded in a simple premise: meaningful impact requires scale — and scale depends on the adoption of viable sustainable alternatives across industries and value chains. Through research, partnerships and demonstration programmes, Project X worked with institutions, corporates and innovators to explore practical pathways for accelerating the adoption of sustainable solutions at the pace and scale required for people and planet. Central to this work was a systems perspective: industry transitions are most effective when each actor in the system operates with clarity about its role, motivations and constraints, enabling practical collaboration and effective implementation. The body of work developed through Project X continues to inform thinking and practice on systems change, demand-led innovation and sustainable transformation. Work developed through Project X was supported by partners and funders including the World Wide Fund for Nature, Climate-KIC, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, ClimateWorks Foundation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Innovate UK, and other actors across the sustainability and innovation ecosystem.
