Project Independence Canberra Information

PI is an innovative social housing development for people with an Intellectual Disability. It represents a new and unique model of homeownership, not only in Australia but also internationally. PI provides people with high-standard, long-term rental accommodation and the opportunity to build towards owning a property, using just their government Disability Support Pension (DSP). Concurrently they are learning life skills and gaining Supported Decision-Making abilities to live as independently as possible. Pathways to Independence is a 7-week course specifically designed for people with intellectual disabilities who want to develop the essential skills required to transition to independent living. Over the duration of the course, participants learn about these skills and then self-assess whether they need further specific training or practice or additional support.
