Project Guardian is a global initiative dedicated to addressing one of the most pressing, yet hidden, threats to our marine ecosystems: the more than 8,500 Potentially Polluting Wrecks (PPWs) lying on the seabed. These decaying historical vessels contain an estimated 20 million tons of oil and hazardous materials, creating a silent environmental crisis that threatens coastal communities and marine life. Our mission is to transform the world's approach to this challenge, moving from reactive disaster response to proactive, intelligence-led prevention. Project Guardian operates as a synergistic co-leadership between two founding partners: Marinas Guardian (Charity Lead): A registered charity that provides non-profit governance, leads on conservation policy, and spearheads public-facing advocacy and stakeholder engagement. Deeptrek (Founding Partner): The operational and technical arm of the project, Deeptrek provides the core technology, including a proprietary AI-driven intelligence platform, the WERP assessment protocol, and all in-situ operational delivery. Together, we are systematically identifying, assessing, and prioritizing these high-risk wrecks to create a clear roadmap for global remediation. By pioneering innovative solutions like the Ocean Remediation Credit, we are building a scalable, sustainable model to fund this critical work and protect our ocean planet for future generations.
