We inspire, mentor and partner with entrepreneurs. We start the process at the beginning, exposing early career scientists to business and entrepreneurship, through our PRIMED initiative. We follow on by working with investor, pharma and industry partners, to develop and support the journey of impact-driven founders. PRIMED is a UK-wide organisation, spearheaded by Prof Sir Tony Kouzarides, designed to galvanise the next generation of impact-driven scientists towards venture creation. Our quest is to galvanise the next generation of company founders to tackle civilisationally important problems. We believe this process should start at the beginning of a researcher’s journey. This is enacted through our PRIMED programme, which educates early career scientists in the process of entrepreneurship and business in general. PRIMED creates local city-wide communities who are curious about entrepreneurship. It operates through a “learn from experience” principle. The programme provides talks and networking with role models from business. It identifies early career scientists with interest in, or ideas for, company creation and nurtures them. PRIMED is operational in 6 cities in the UK and 4 cities in the USA and partners with universities and institutions to deliver its programme. It is driven by a local committee of PhD students and postdocs and is overseen by the Vellos leadership team. Vellos collaborates with the Fifty Years investor firm to deliver PRIMED and, in the UK, it is partnered with the UK government’s Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) who power the programme.
