Prepare programs build empowered individuals, organizations, and communities. Prepare is an educational services company founded in 1992, offering evidence-based and research-validated programs in violence prevention, personal safety, communication skills, and self-defense. Prepare is a Certified Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) in the City of New York. We are dedicated to fostering safer communities through comprehensive educational programs. We envision a society where our collective response to violence is informed, proactive, and compassionate. Prepare's programming reaches all ages, genders, and abilities. Prepare takes an integrated approach to personal safety and violence prevention using consistent, research-based methods, and highly trained instructors. Each program is designed to be relevant and accessible to the group we are teaching at schools, workplaces, community organizations and via public programs. Prepare focuses on preventing violence before it occurs by addressing risk factors and promoting protective factors via health education, anti-bullying training, and social-emotional learning to change beliefs and behaviors that lead to violence. Prepare provides hands-on self-defense courses such as IMPACT Basics and Prepare programs for kids and teens, featuring the suited instructor. Prepare offers education on threat assessment and threat management, including verbal skills such as boundary setting, de-escalation, and activating help, as well as physical resistance skills to interrupt aggression. Our classes address the consequences of violence and support trauma recovery and future harm reduction. Our instructors teach and coach program participants according to best practices developed by therapists and counselors in the field of trauma recovery.
