Practical Engineering Solutions, LLC. (PES) was founded in 2006. PES was formed out of the combined experiences of a Professional Engineer and a hazardous waste remediation general contractor. Early in Mr. Bauman's career as an environmental engineer with a Masters Degree, he realized that the general contractors he worked with possessed special skill and experience to make real what was only theoretical; to bring the imagination, calculations, and drawings of an engineer to the field and make them actual; to create something tangible from a blueprint. It was exciting for a young engineer-in-training to see his design actually built and functioning! But, what had been built was not exactly as it had been designed. The general contractor made simple but vital changes that enabled the design to really work. The contractor added his practical knowledge and experience to the engineering so that the end product performed better than expected. After 4 years working as a consulting engineer and becoming a registered Professional Engineer, he moved to California and continued to work as an consulting engineer for another year. He then shifted gears and became a hazardous waste remediation general contractor. That decision was the start of a 16 year journey that would take him and his family all across North America; from California to New York, from Texas to Montana and to Alaska, to Mexico and Canada, and even to South America and South Africa. While a hazardous waste remediation general contractor, Mr. Bauman used his engineering skills and gained valuable construction experience as a project manager and principal in charge on numerous high profile Superfund Remediation projects. These projects included the $40 million Sand Springs Petrochemical Complex Superfund Site in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and the $10 million Douglassville Disposal Superfund Site in Berks County, Pennsylvania. These large projects, as well as the many other smaller projects that he was involved in over a span of 16 years as a general contractor, presented many complex business and engineering challenges. These challenges afforded Mr. Bauman the opportunity to use innovation and creativity to form practical solutions that enhanced not only the function but also the financial performance of these projects. That project experience vaulted Mr. Bauman into executive positions at companies with annual revenues from $40 million to well over $100 million. In those positions, Mr. Bauman gained valuable experience in the areas of business development, strategic account management, operations management, contract negotiations, and dispute resolution. Practical Engineering Solutions, LLC. will put that experience to work for you!
