The PPFA was formally organized on March 22, 1997, and the Constitution and officers were put in place by majority vote at the first annual spring certification clinic on June 7, 1997. As stated in the by-laws, the purpose of the the PPFA is to organize farriers and other interested parties in the state of Pennsylvania, so as to facilitate learning, ongoing education and promote the farrier industry. The reaction to the formation of the PPFA has been overwhelmingly positive, with more joining all the time.
