Pozzi offers clear, light, straight vertical grain on all of its Douglas fir windows; considered by other manufacturers to be a deluxe alternative to flat grain that warrants an additional charge. Typically a light rosy color with straight grain patterns that will turn more 'red' over time when exposed to light, the fir used in Pozzi windows has an excellent stain and finish consistency. A dense, hard and strong wood, Douglas fir is extremely durable and has a strong natural resistance to decay. Pacific Coast red alder is another versatile wood featuring a relatively straight grain " sometimes described as a 'quiet' grain " that blends well with cherry, maple or birch. Its color actually ranges from pale yellow to reddish brown, and remains consistent over time, irrespective of light exposure. Alder stains consistently well, and when it is professionally finished even the most experienced eye would have difficulty identifying it against cherry or maple. Genuine mahogany is a sumptuous wood that has always been associated with the finest furnishings, and has a very unique short, swirling grain pattern. Its color ranges from shades of reddish brown to a deep, rich red. Mahogany is a very stable hardwood, with little expansion, contraction or water absorption and stains well for an exceptional finish.
