PowerWells Foundation tackles two global problems at once: electronic waste and energy poverty. We recover lithium-ion and other batteries from e-waste and repurpose them into home solar systems with lighting, then deploy them to communities living without access to electricity. Both problems are growing fast. In Australia, lithium-ion battery waste is increasing at over 20% a year, yet only 2% is recycled (CSIRO). Globally, around 800 million people still have no access to electricity (World Bank). Our model connects these two challenges. By giving used batteries a second life, we keep hazardous waste out of landfill while delivering clean, non-polluting power to the people who need it most. We also run hands-on workshops for corporates and schools. Participants build home solar units and power banks with lights, while learning how e-waste can be recycled sustainably and batteries repurposed to help address global energy poverty. PowerWells Foundation is a charity registered with the ACNC and holds DGR 1 status from the ATO, which means all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
