Up until late 2017, POP-UP BEIJING was a multi-award-winning homeware, antiques, furnishing and interiors design and lifestyle store, located in the burgeoning heart of South Sanlitun, Beijing, China. Featuring a highly successful wine bar, with a finely curated wine list – and an active programme of workshops, events and film screenings – POP-UP BEIJING was proud to be a sanctuary from the hustle-and-bustle of the city. For each of its three years in operation as a public venue, without exception, POP-UP BEIJING was proud to be winner of ‘Best Boutique Store’ in That’s Beijing magazine’s ‘2015 Best of Beijing Awards,’ ‘Lifestyle Awards 2016,’ and ‘Lifestyle Awards 2017’ – as well as ‘Best Shop/Boutique 2015,’ ‘Outstanding Shop/Boutique 2016’ and ‘Outstanding Shop/Boutique 2017’ in City Weekend magazine’s ‘Readers’ Choice Awards.’ Although the original founding partnership was dissolved at the end of 2017, Creative Director and co-founder Glenn Schuitman went on to fly the flag of POP-UP BEIJING and the design studio POP-UP CREATIVE until early 2020, through his work as an interior designer and stylist; through various POP-UP events throughout Beijing; and as an interior designer, antique dealer and art curator in Beijing and beyond. Projects in the last phase of POP-UP BEIJING and POP-UP CREATIVE's time in China, included whiskey bar and venue Straight Spirit (直人烈酒商店), and cocktail bar The China Eastern Herbal Company (HERBAL), the world's first cocktail bar fusing Traditional Chinese Medicinal herbs with the origins of the Western cocktail tradition in tonics and herbs, across the complete menu of cocktails - both still open to this day.
