Founded in 2021 by Forbes 30 Under 30 Fellows Nathaniel Banks and Yidian Liu, PolyGone is a cleantech startup building the world's first scalable solutions to combat microplastic pollution. Microplastics, classified as plastics smaller than 5mm in size are everywhere, identified in over 90 percent of drinking water sources, every ocean, and now within human bodily tissues. With microplastics containing chemicals that are endocrine disrupting, neurotoxic, and carcinogenic, they pose a growing health concern for both aquatic wildlife and humans if left unmanaged. To address this emerging contaminant, PolyGone develops novel treatment and monitoring solutions, designed specifically to combat microplastics. Our core technology is a proprietary filter media that can capture up to 98 percent of sub mm microplastics in gravity flow, which can be applied to filter microplastics at scale in industrial and municipal infrastructure. Additionally, PolyGone offers comprehensive and state of the art water sample analysis, to equip utilities, companies, and communities with accurate data on their exposure to microplastic contamination.
