Polar Performance Information

Sandy Hennis and Sophie Montagne were part of the first female team to ski across the Antarctic continent, coast-to-coast and using muscle power alone. Setting three new world records, the British Army’s Ice Maidens skied a total of 1,704km and battled temperatures as low as -56C. Expecting the unsupported journey to take 75 days, we crossed the finish line on 20th January 2018, 14 days ahead of schedule. Our 61 day journey wan't about showing men what women are capable of, we wanted to show women what women are capable of. As Polar Performance, we want to use our experiences in Antarctica and other expeditions to help bring new perspectives to the corporate sector. Combining Sandy’s military expertise with Sophie’s 10 years’ experience in the civilian workplace, we deliver presentations and workshops focussing on high performance teams, covering: Teamwork - knowing your team and motivating them around a shared mission Psychological safety - creating non-judgemental working environments Imposter syndrome and self belief – what it is and why we get it Dynamic leadership - adapting leadership styles to the skillset of the group Resilience - both mental and physical, and coping strategies Dealing with conflict – recognising, embracing and dealing with it Meticulous preparation – always thinking one step ahead Confidence - recognising achievements, conquering fears Sandy and Sophie are also committed to inspiring children and young people to be active, set goals and have the determination to achieve. We have shared the Ice Maiden story of ordinary women achieving extraordinary things with over 30,000 young people across the UK, focussing on resilience, confidence and exceptional teamwork. We offer corporate and schools speaking packages, whereby companies sponsor us to speak at a school or schools of their choice.
