PlumeStars is an innovative start up specialized in development of new products to treat lung diseases. A major need in respiratory diseases, such as the lung bacterial infections, is to increase the efficacy of treatment. Effective antibiotic concentration at the pulmonary site of infection is difficult to achieve by oral or parenteral administration. Therefore, drug deposition by inhalation is a powerful approach to effectively reach the affected site, i.e the lungs. The aim of administering a drug, in particular an antibiotic by aerosolisation, is to deliver the maximum efficiency by depositing the drug directly to the relevant areas of the respiratory tract. Through an innovative patented spray drying manufacturing process, PlumeStars is able to obtain powders constituted by microparticles with size, shape and density conferring high respirability to the product (more than 60% of the dose is respirable).
