PLMCS Information

PLMCS is working alongside NHS West Midlands to support the establishment of three Health Innovation and Education Clusters (HIECs) in the region. PLMCS was initially commissioned to support the development of proposals in response to a Department of Health call for collaborative bids in May 2009. During the second half of 2009 and funded by NHS West Midlands, Paddie supported the three partnerships to develop bids and provided an interface between the consortia and the strategic health authority. All three proposals were successful at national competition in December 2009 and PLMCS has been retained to support contract negotiation and the early operations of the HIECs. PLMCS provided support the senior management team of UK medical school to explore new mechanisms of collaboration with the NHS. Supported by the strategic health authority, PLMCS prepared briefing documents for a ministerial visit, managed a consultation exercise to secure buy in to a new initiative and facilitated discussions between stakeholders. PLMCS provided interim support for the commercialisation of the life sciences research portfolio at the University of Aston. PLMCS provided interim management of an initiative to release latent market demand within the SME community for the services of a post-92 university and in parallel developing a training programme to build capacity within the institution to deliver such services. PLMCS was commissioned at very short notice to initiate the project, establish an institutional profile for the project, recruit the project staff and manage an effective handover. Dr Murphy served as a Business Development Manager for the Technology Transfer Fund in the area of medical technologies providing advice and hands-on support to small companies seeking to secure up to £25K to support innovation and product development. The role involved preparing and presenting a project "pitch" to a panel of funders and stakeholders. For a period of six months, Dr Murphy provided business development and operations management for a university spin-out company in the area of neuroscience including liaison with clients, contract negotiation, systems development, investor relations and staff recruitment and development.
