Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church Information

Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church is dedicated to making the love of Christ known. We have heard Jesus' invitation to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19). We are a welcoming place, a place eager to share God's love with you. We are thankful for each "God Sighting", for every way God reveals himself among us and beyond us. We believe God's love is revealed in the Bible, that God's Word is like a love-letter to each of us. Scripture is the norm of our faith and life as Lutheran Christians. We believe that it is by "grace you have been saved, through faith … not by works, so that no one can boast" (Eph.2:8-9). God's story is our story, and our source of knowing who God is and how God calls us to live. We believe that God is the One who was, who is and will be forever, that there is "nothing that can separate us" (Rom.8:39) from God's amazing love and grace. We call our gathering the "body of Christ" because Jesus promised that "where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them" (Matt.18:20). The church is a gathering of God's people, living stones from every time and place. The church is God's gift of love as we grow together in faith. We gather to worship, teach, encourage, pray, and move out in mission wherever God leads. We believe Jesus came, not just to save us for eternity, but to empower us through the gift of the Holy Spirit, to change the world in the present. Jesus calls us to have our own hearts and minds transformed so we can continue to be God's field (I Co.3:9), good soil in which good works can grow. We believe we are called to bloom where we are planted here in the valley and to bear fruit beyond this place. We live in challenging times. People are more and more isolated, more private than ever before. We no longer sit out on porch swings on a Sunday afternoon talking to one another. We know our vision for ministry has to change and take us beyond our church walls in order to make a difference in our community and our world.
