PlanetHappiness Information

Planet Happiness is an innovative nonprofit project that seeks to measure and manage problems of overtourism and its impacts on host communities and World Heritage Sites with a subjective well-being instrument. Planet Happiness aims to (i) highlight and strengthen the relationship between tourism and the well-being of host communities, and (ii) deliver a high impact media campaign that raises global awareness and participation in the Gross National Happiness (GNH) and “Beyond GDP” agenda. While we are focused upon UNESCO World Heritage sites for media and publicity purposes, in an age of growing "over-tourism" our model and approach can be applied in all tourism destinations. We are strongly and directly focused upon global and destination sustainability, as well as individual wellbeing. Project data is open source and our tools are available on websites for anyone to use.
