PITCHAfrica Information

PITCHAfrica is a US registered non-profit organisation that binds together the universal need for water with the unifying power of football and sport to address water needs worldwide. Through the development of innovative rainwater harvesting building types and supporting technology, PITCHAfrica provides communities with integrated rainwater water harvesting solutions, built around schools. Initiatives and projects include PITCHAFRICA, a rainwater harvesting Football Stadium and School, WATERBANKS, low cost, rainwater harvesting school buildings, RAINCHUTES, an initiative that repurposes decommissioned parachutes as rainwater harvesters and FILTERBANKS, scaleable and locally reproducible, low cost water filtration systems. PITCHAfrica's WATERBANK Schools Initiative was named as one of the 100 most sustainable projects in the world by the Danish organisation, Sustainia and is a finalist in the 2013 Buckminster Fuller Challenge, socially responsible design's highest award. The first WATERBANK School built in Kenya has just been named the Greenest School on Earth by the US Green Building Council.
