DESIGN FOR THE CONSERVATION OF NATURE. _ We work with conservation organisations who have tricky human problems. These organisations can be government agencies, non-profits, inter-governmental agencies, universities, and other groups of committed people who understand why the conservation of nature is important. We add value to their important mission like an epiphyte in a tall Amazonian tree, providing them access to a broad range of design skills, innovative problem solving ability and energetic collaboration. The basis of our practice is in design research & ethnography, deeply understanding human stakeholders in conservation efforts. Pistol River is a collaborative, ephemeral studio, made up of a diverse set of designers. We curate a few projects a year around the globe for partners who are committed to innovating and forging new paths in the conservation of nature. Project contributors are chosen based on skill and interest, generally between 2-4 collaborators. The projects we work on a span a few key areas: DESIGN RESEARCH. – Deeply understanding cultures and human actors in order to uncover latent needs and issues in their involvement in the conservation of nature. COLLABORATIVE DISCOVERY. – Working alongside scientists, community members, and human actors to discover ranges of solutions to the problems we discover. CONCEPT DESIGN. – Running with the big ideas, exploring their potential and thinking hard about how to move them forward. STRATEGIC STORYTELLING – Working alongside organisations to envision how an innovation or concept would play out in real problem solving.
