Phlotonics is developing the molecular monitoring infrastructure needed to scale biological manufacturing. Today, manufacturers rely primarily on indirect process signals or offline assays to understand what cells are doing during culture. These approaches provide useful information but offer limited visibility into the molecular signals that drive cellular behavior. Phlotonics is building photonic biosensor platforms that enable real-time monitoring of secreted proteins and signaling molecules directly within biological processes. This capability allows manufacturers to detect process drift earlier, better understand cellular state, and improve control of complex biological production systems. Initial deployments are focused on cell therapy manufacturing, where process variability and batch value are both extremely high. Phlotonics collaborates with organizations including the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute, AIM Photonics, and BioMADE. The company also participates in research programs supported by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority integrating biosensors with microphysiological systems at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Phlotonics’ long-term vision is to provide the biological data infrastructure required for the next generation of: • cell therapy manufacturing • biologics production • AI-enabled bioprocess control
