What’s in a name? Well, it turns out – a lot! It is surprising to many that the Pennsylvania SPCA is not associated with the ASPCA or any other SPCAs throughout the state or country. The ASPCA does not serve as a governing body, and though we are all partnering at times to improve animal welfare, we are not formally attached to one another. We are all our own nonprofit with individual missions. The PSPCA’s mission is to protect animals, prevent cruelty and to improve the health and quality of life throughout Pennsylvania. We do this through our four physical locations – North Philadelphia, Danville, Fishtown and Lancaster, as well as through our Humane Law Enforcement Department which covers 23 counties throughout the state. So why does this matter? The PSPCA has boots on the ground 365 days a year throughout Pennsylvania. When you support the PSPCA, your donation directly goes toward helping animals suffering from cruelty and neglect in your own community. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs and cats, from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition. Our volunteers are more than just volunteers, and our dogs are more than just dogs. We are a family. And we welcome you to join us!

PAWS is dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. We are the city’s largest no-kill shelter. We operate two high-volume, low-cost clinics serving pet owners and rescue organizations that lack access to affordable basic veterinary care. With our adoption locations, special events and foster care network we find loving homes for thousands of animals each year. We work to make Philadelphia a no-kill city where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Every year nearly 24,000 homeless, abandoned, and unwanted dogs and cats enter the city’s animal control shelter. More than a quarter of them – over 6,000 pets – never make it back out alive. PAWS is committed to reducing that number and to leading Philadelphia toward becoming a no-kill city. We do so through comprehensive rescue and prevention efforts: pulling at-risk animals out of the city’s shelter and placing them in loving adoptive and foster homes, and providing low- or no-cost veterinary services and spay/neuter surgery to disadvantaged pet owners, enabling pets to remain as cherished family members rather than face abandonment and preventing the birth of unwanted litters. Our efforts are based out of our boutique-style Adoption Center in the Old City section of Philadelphia, showcasing adoptable animals in an inviting setting, our Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic in the Grays Ferry section, and our Northeast Adoption Center and Low-Cost Clinic, which brings our services to a community that previously lacked them. Our efforts are entirely privately funded. The generosity of individual, corporate, media & foundation supporters is maximized by a highly qualified staff, an enormous and active volunteer base, an engaged Board of Directors, frequent media appearances, and widespread community backing. This support funds lifesaving initiatives which help reduce, and ultimately eliminate, the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia’s healthy & treatable pets.
