Peter Dent Information

Victoria (12 years). Previous conducting positions in South Vancouver Island include the Ekoos Vocal Ensemble of Sooke (5 years) and the Arion Male Voice Choir of Victoria (7 Years). Since 2009, Dent has arranged music for folk and pop singing trips to Cuba. Both major undertakings have operated for several years, assembling singers from many regions of Canada to form a non-auditioned choir in the host country, rehearse for 5 to 7 days, and then give performances. In June of 2020, he led a fourth trip to New York. Singers from across Canada joined a mass choir singing the Mozart Requiem in Lincoln Centre. Previous tours in 2013, 2015 and 2017 have featured performances of the Durufle Requiem, the Faure Requiem and the Brahms Requiem, the latter two performances occurring in Carnegie Hall. All are presented under the auspices of Distinguished Concerts International of New York. Peter Dent is also a jazz pianist and choral arranger. His CDs are played regularly on the CBC and several of his compositions have been performed by Canadian choirs. He is comfortable conducting a variety of musical genres and styles. He has led vocal workshops in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and Briti Choir at the Edna Manley School for the Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. Since moving to Victoria, he has worked in venues as diverse as Hermanns Jazz Club, The Mary Winspear Centre, The Alix Goolden Hall, The Delta Ocean Pointe, The Hotel Grand Pacific, and First Metropolitan United Church. He is currently performing regularly with Concerts in Care with vocalist Elizabeth Marshall and part of the Garnet Barlow Quartet at the Collective Wine Bar. Dent became a life member of Victoria Local 247, Canadian Federation of Musicians in April of 2015. He and his wife are members the Union Club of Victoria..
