Perth Radiation Oncology operates from two network-linked campuses in the Perth Metropolitan Area to provide comprehensive radiotherapy services for over 2,000 patients per annum. PRO currently operates five Elekta linear accelerators, a Nucletron HDR brachytherapy afterloader, a low dose-rate iodine seed programme for ocular melanoma, a Gulmay combined superficial/orthovoltage therapy unit and a Siemens helical CT scanner for planning simulation. The practice uses ADAC Pinnacle for external beam treatment planning, Plato for HDR brachytherapy planning and IMPAC Mosaiq for electronic patient management. Advanced clinical procedures currently include IMRT for head-and-neck cancers and IGRT for prostate organ tracking during treatment on an Elekta Synergy platform equipped with on-board cone-beam CT. A new Elekta Axesse linear accelerator treatment platform capable of Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Volume Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) has been scheduled for 2010. Future developments in the near future include expansion of IMRT and IGRT utilities, MR-image guided brachytherapy and VMAT for intracranial SRS.
