Pelagos (pel’-ag-os) literally means “the open sea.” We took this name to represent what we feel many companies are faced with. Namely, how do you effectively navigate when you are in the middle of a vast expanse like the open sea, and everywhere you look there is water. No landmarks; no visibility over the horizon; just water everywhere. In our analogy, data is like water; it’s everywhere but how do you navigate it? It’s often overwhelming. You can’t consume it unless it’s properly processed. Too much of it swamps you. To little of it and you perish. However, for those that choose to master it: they power through it; they ride its waves; they sail across it at high speed. There is a cost for successful navigation and that means using the correct tools. You cannot expect to be successful surfing the giant waves at Mavericks on a flimsy piece of styrofoam. Nor can you expect to break the 4-second barrier in the quarter mile riding a 1-cylinder moped. The same is true for corporations today: you cannot expect to effectively managed your data assets without the use of a best-of-bread intelligent data management platform.
