PedsNet was formed in 1997, bringing together a group of over 30 leading pediatricians and pediatric specialists. Our mission is to create the highest quality, most pertinent, most comprehensive, pediatric health content products available. In forming PedsNet we looked at the state of pediatric health content and tools on the Web, and answered two key questions: 1. How reliable is pediatric health content on the Web, and how is that reliability assured? 2. What health information do parents need, and how can this information best be delivered via the Web. Our Answers 1. In general our findings, and the findings of others, suggest that most pediatric health information on the Web is not reliable. There are no existing standards and no regulation. Most e-health sites offer very limited pediatric content from a variety of commercially available sources, most of which were developed by non-physicians. At PedsNet we offer an alternative - physician-based, reliable pediatric health information. PedsNet is owned and operated by pediatricians and pediatric specialists, and these physicians continually labor to enforce our standards and criteria for excellence. All our content products are original, created by our staff of over 30 leading pediatricians and sub-specialists, all of whom are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and their field of expertise, and members of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our strict content development guidelines ensure that our health products are of the highest quality available. 2. In order that our products provide parents with the pediatric health information that is most relevant, we let parents tell us what they need. For example, our Experts Library database was developed directly from thousands of health questions submitted to us by parents.
