Power Control Limited (PCL), an established business in Dar es Salaam created a division called RISE, that will supply both domestic and productive solar systems to small holder farmers in Tanzania. RISE is currently funded by PCL and aims to become a fully incorporated business by Q2 2017. Sustainable Energy for All, the initiative launched by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and co-led by World Bank President Jim Kim, has as one of its three goals for 2030, to ensure universal access to modern energy services. Part of the goal to provide universal access to energy will be partly met by utilities through electrification, but a large part of this goal will be met by the private sector through the creation of mini-grid companies and the supply of SHS and Lanterns to off-grid customers. The RISE philosophy is that true economic growth will depend on both productive solar solutions for small businesses and domestic households.
