Software agents started spending real money this summer. Consumer agents take the request and run the errand. The card networks and payment platforms built the rails for them to pay. Merchants are opening their storefronts to agents instead of browsers. Most of the stack now exists. The part that doesn't: nothing checks that what the agent bought is what the person actually asked for, and when a purchase is wrong, the merchant, the agent company, the issuer and the user each have a reason it isn't theirs. The rails settle the money. No layer settles the blame. Today the answer to "who pays" is nobody. Paybots is that layer. Before an agent's purchase goes through, we read the conversation that led to it, decide whether the agent is buying what was asked for within the rules the person set, and answer approve or reject. Approved purchases carry a signed seal so the consumer and the merchant can both see it was checked. We underwrite the decision, so when an agent gets it wrong the loss has an owner. Founded in 2026 in Southern California, four of us. We believe agents are about to start spending money for people, and that the missing piece is trust. Outside of that we're mostly at a team lunch in Costa Mesa (shoutout Outpost Kitchen). If you're not sure your agent can be trusted with money, come say hi.
