Pattern Recognition Lab Information

The Pattern Recognition Lab (PRL, LME) at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg develops machine learning, image analysis, signal processing, and pattern recognition methods for complex real-world data. Building on 50 years of research in pattern recognition, the lab works across a broad range of fields, including medical imaging, health engineering, computer vision, inverse problems and reconstruction, magnetic resonance imaging, ophthalmic imaging, speech and language understanding, time series intelligence, and data-driven methods for utility infrastructure. Our research connects methodological advances in artificial intelligence with practical applications in medicine, industry, infrastructure, and digital health. The lab is strongly interdisciplinary and collaborates closely with national and international universities, clinical partners, research institutes, and industry. In addition to research, the Pattern Recognition Lab contributes to education, open science, research software, datasets, and reproducible AI methods.
