Paseka was founded in 1989 by Ladislav Horáček as one of the first private publishing houses in Czechoslovakia after the Velvet Revolution. Since then, Paseka has established itself as a place for good books, new Czech voices, and foreign classics; a place for fiction, non-fiction, children's literature and comics. The publishing house's authors include Tomáš Šebek, Honza Vojtko, Miroslav Hlaučo, Timothy Snyder, Édouard Louis, Marek Torčík, Anna Cima, Salman Rushdie, Štěpánka Jislová or Miřenka Čechová.
